Victoria sustainable and active tranportation event

The Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition invites to attend Changing Gears, an expo and speaker series on sustainable and active transportation, hosted by the BC Sustainable Energy Association.

Changing Gears is about:
  • understanding the impacts of fossil-fuel transportation on our environment
  • re-designing streets  and urban space to encourage “people places”, interaction, health and vibrancy in our communities
  • developing infrastructures to support “active transportation” (pedestrian and bicycle) lifestyles throughout the Capital Region
  • extending the reach, frequency, comfort and diversity of transit options

The Launch of the Nanaimo Region Rail Trail Website takes place on Feb 25th at the Nanaimo Golf Course from 4 till 6. This event is open to the public so please forward the poster to anyone you think might be interested.

Coombs to Parksville to French Creek

The RDN is gearing up to begin planning our first sections of Rail Trail within the Esquimalt and Nanaimo (E&N) railway corridor. With $2.6 million in funding support through the Federal Government's Gas Tax Fund, the first sections of trail, totalling approximately 10km, will connect the City of Parksville with Coombs and with French Creek.

BCCC wants your input

The BC Cycling Coalition today announced the launch of a new campaign to help cyclists in the province to participate in the provincial government's Rural Highway Safety and Speed Review. Please take a few minutes to read the BCCC Press Release below and hopefully you will add your voice to BCCC's push to make cycling safer in our province. 


An Open House for the Review will be held in Nanaimo on Wednesday, January 15 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Coast Bastion Inn, 11 Bastion Street

The need for a master plan for transportation in B.C.




Thanks to Richard Campbell - President of the BC Cycling Coalition - for the following think piece. I feel it nails the current situation right on the head. There is very little overall planning for transportation infrastructure in the province. Here on Vancouver Island, to travel between most communities, one must either drive by car or use one of the very limited bus services.
